Whether it is Openening, Primetime or Aftershow, Mathias’
intuition for the crowd and location, proves each time again
that he lives for his profession. His music is both, distinctly
ambitious and refreshing. Following the House music of the
90s, he works thoroughly to create new sound structures. For
a while, he has been using different types of percussion elements.
The result is an enjoyable rhythm, which communicates with
its audience in a very particular way. In a playful approach,
he creates an incredible repertoire of feelings that reproduces
within the crowd. Mathias’ various sets include the
following sound features: funky, freaky, dashing, dub, slamming,
enriched by African and South American percussions.
Inspired and motivated by the first House & Techno DJs
at Bioxultra in Gera he got his first turntables at the age
of 14. One could argue it is necessary to live wherever the
sound rises at a particular time. However, Mathias draws on
his own strengths. Away from sated urban in- and output, he
has always maintained the objectivity for his music.
For 7 years, he has been the resident DJ of the well-known
club Muna. He is not only DJing there, but he also supports
talented folks within the Freshblood project. Additionally,
he is jointly responsible for the Klanglauf events at Kassablanca
in Jena, as a DJ and organizer. Together with Marek Hemman,
Mathias released 4 ep’s on the label Freude am Tanzen
and 4 own ep’s on Vakant. Amongst others, he also did
remixes for Matthias Tanzmann, Onur Özer, Dapayk, Anja
Schneider, Daniel Stefanik and Trentemöller.
DJing and, later on, the production of electronic music have
been his occupation for 13 years by now. With his style of
work, Mathias joins those, who refuse to produce and release
music excessively. Thus, the necessity to make records that
will remain long lasting is one of the guiding motifs of his
profession.
Egal ob Opening, Primetime oder
Aftershow, mit Gespür fürs Publikum und Location
beweist Mathias Kaden ein jedes Mal aufs Neue, das er seine
Tätigkeit lebt. Mathias’ Musik ist merklich anspruchsvoll
und erfrischend zugleich. Angelehnt an den House der 90er
Jahre, tüftelt er unermüdlich an neuen Soundstrukturen.
Seit geraumer Zeit bedient er sich verschiedener Arten von
Percussion Elementen. Das Ergebnis ist ein sehr reizvoller
Rhythmus, der mit dem Zuhörer auf ganz eigene Weise kommuniziert.
Spielerisch weckt er bei seinem Publikum ein ganz besonderes
Repertoire an Gefühlsregungen. Die aufregend variablen
Sets weisen folgende soundstrukturelle Merkmale auf: funky,
freaky, galoppierend, dubig, knallend, und sind mit afrikanischen
und südamerikanischen Schlaginstrumenten angereichert.
Inspiriert und motiviert durch die ersten House & Techno-DJs
im Bioxultra in Gera, erwarb er mit 14 Jahren seine ersten
Plattenspieler. Manch einer könnte behaupten, es wäre
wichtig am Puls der Musik zu leben. Dagegen bleibt zu sagen,
jeder schöpft aus anderen Quellen. Mathias, der Übersättigung
des urbanen In- und Outputs entzogen, bewahrt sich dadurch
eine besondere Objektivität für die Sache.
Seit 7 Jahren ist Mathias der Resident DJ des bekannten Thüringer
Clubs Muna. Dort tritt er nicht nur regelmäßig
auf, mit dem Projekt Freshblood sorgt er zusätzlich für
die Förderung des musikalischen Nachwuchses. Außerdem
ist er mitverantwortlich für die Klanglauf-Veranstaltungen
im Kassablanca in Jena, die er als DJ und Organisator betreut.
Zusammen mit Marek Hemman hat Mathias 4 Ep’s auf Freude
am Tanzen veröffentlicht und nunmehr 4 eigene Ep’s
auf dem Label Vakant sowie einige Remixe u. a. für Matthias
Tanzmann, Onur Özer, Dapayk, Anja Schneider, Daniel Stefanik
und Trentemöller.
Mit dem Auflegen und Produzieren elektronischer Musik beschäftigt
er sich nun offiziell seit 13 Jahren. Mathias reiht sich mit
seinem Arbeitsstil in die Riege derjenigen ein, die übermäßiges
Fabrizieren und Veröffentlichen von Musik ablehnen. Die
Erkenntnis der wachsenden Notwendigkeit Platten herauszugeben,
die auch nach Jahren noch gern gehört werden, ist eines
der Leitmotive seiner Profession.

The Thunder from Thuringia, Genosse
from Gera, Mr. Minimal Samba, the man that goes by many names
is here to present to us his very first LP on none other than
his solo action Vakant home.
About 2 years in the making, Studio 10 takes Mathias Kaden’s
life-long work as DJ and producer, world wide tours, twenty
something years of listening and thinking, machines and people,
wraps a bow around it all, and delivers it with roses dipped
in chocolate. Always taking his time with production, Mathias’
focus on quality over quality continues to pay dividends no
matter the state of the economy.
Unique in many ways, Studio 10 was also unique for the producer
himself. Never before has Mathias incorporated into his music
so much hardware, field recordings, messages, and invited
friends and orchestral musicians to collaborate. Each track
has a message waiting to be interpreted, from the first track
“Intro Ducing” borrowing from Bob Marley to the
last named “1981” featuring Gjaezon, significant
in that it was the year of birth for the most important and
timeless instrument in Mathias’ studio, the TR808.
Similar to his Vakant brethren, Mathias is rather
the instrumentalist and performer than the programmer and
sampler. A Fender Rhodes from jazz pal Lars Mäurer on
“Defender”, Mathias’s 1970’s Lowrey
organ played by Florian Schirmacher on “Lowrey”,
violin by Claudia Ander-Donathand on “Re Menor”,
and flugelhorn by Martin Rudloff on “Panic Stricken”
all pull and push the music in ever expanding directions,
but at the center the 808 melds it all together. In addition
vocalists (and lyricists) Ian Simmonds, Gjaezon, and Tomomi
Ukumori impart their talents to help articulate the messages
that pervade Studio 10.
To call the album house is akin to referring to a 1982 Château
Lafite-Rothschild as wine. Closer to Chicago than to anywhere
else in sound and in Mathias’ heart, Studio 10 finds
its home in more intimate settings where its nuance, ideas,
and depth can all come shining through.
Eine Geschichte der Leidenschaft
& Persönlichkeit
Für die Völkerverständigung auf den Tanzflächen
hat Mathias Kaden bereits prime-massivstes Schweißvergießen
samt Dramatikregler aufdrehen erwirtschaftet. Ihm ist zutiefst
bewusst das man kollektive „Arme in die Luft“
Erlebnisse 2009 schwer im Albumformat auf einen Tonträger
bannen
kann, der dabei zu mehr taugt als nur eine Saison lang durchgereicht
zu werden. Er steht für virtuoses Auflegen und gerade
deshalb scheint er posaunen zu wollen: Hunde, wollt ihr ewig
weiter so durchfeiern!
Kreativität soll nicht dem Diktat des Dancefloors unterliegen,
sonst hat man irgendwann ein Dancefloor ohne Kreativität...
Da hilft nur dem Ruf des Herzens zu folgen, ein verdichtetes
Künstleralbum mit organischer Maschinenmusik voller Freude,
Optimismus und Tiefsinn zu arrangieren, anstatt einer Ansammlung
von Playlist-Anführern, welches mehr ist als eine stürmische
Fußnote in der House & Techno Historie.
Dabei ist ihm ein Album aus einem Guss gelungen, welches traditionsbewusst
in die Zukunft weist und sich eignet in den verschiedensten
Bereichen des menschlich aktiven Daseins genossen zu werden.
Der typische Kaden-Funk ist auch hier präsent. Nur zäumt
er den „alten“ Gaul Minimal von der housigen Seite
auf, allerdings Deepinimal oder die schärfere toolige
„House-Variante“ die derzeit die Clubs beherrscht
ist das nicht.
Studio 10 drückt eine deutliche Weiterentwicklung von
Mathias aus, der hiermit neue und alte Statements setzen möchte.
Es ist Kaden im Jetzt, aber auch Kaden vor fünf Jahren,
oder in 5 Jahren, eben eine richtige Herzensangelegenheit
mit ganz viel Persönlichkeit im Klangspektrum und
Inspiration durchs globale Reisen.
Zu einem großen Teil wurde die Arbeit zum Album an echtem
Equipment und Hardware verrichtet und da im Tonreich die Verbindung
von Ego & Team exzellente Resultate hervorbringen kann,
hat er sich diverse Musikerkollegen auch aus artfremden Zweigen
mit ins Boot geholt.
